Eifion Griffiths, Owner Melin Tregwynt, Pembrokeshire.

Eifion Griffiths is the owner of a small family company, Melin Tregwyn, one of the oldest working Woollen Mills in Wales established in 1912. The Woollen Mill Industry forms a huge part of Wales’ history and heritage, being once one of the largest industries in Wales. Although a number of Mills across Wales are no longer in production, the legacy lives on because of people like Eifion. Melin Tregwynt leads the way in contemporary design with high profile industry collaborations and worldwide notability. It's iconic Welsh Tapestry and double cloth designs can be seen all over the world (including our very own Glynne Arms!)

Today the company employs over 32 people and their fabrics are found in hotels and design led stores worldwide, on film and TV. They have even made an appearance in Dr. Who’s Tardis! Alongside their own stock ranges the company specialize in short runs and exclusive designs for hotels, designers and specifiers and, over the years, have worked with companies as diverse as John Lewis, Heals, Liberty’s, Muji, Margaret Howell, Comme des Garcons and Mulberry who have all commissioned exclusive ranges.

Their blankets and throws have been specified both for the Celebrity Big Brother house and the Apprentice, and they’ve worked on collaborative projects with the Tate Gallery, the Victoria & Albert Museum, National Theatre Wales and the Community Foundation in Wales. In 2008 they successfully wove the largest recorded picnic blanket in the world. This 40 x 45 metre blanket was the star of the Waitrose summer advertising campaign. The mill is currently working on a range of fabrics (including upholstery cloths woven in Cambrian Mountains Welsh wool) chosen for the new BBC building in Cardiff.

Siân Stacey, Island Manager, Bardsey Island.

For the last three years Siân has been the Island Manager of Bardsey Island, a small island off the very tip of the Llyn Peninsula. Siân, and her partner Mark, are two of only four year round islanders. From November until March they share the island with only the farming family, the sheep, birdlife and the hundred strong Grey Seal population. Throughout the summer months the resident population increases to 11, along with the weekly guests of no more than 50 people. The island is completely off grid, relying on solar and wind energy and harvesting water from the island wells.

Siân first visited the Bardsey (or Enlli in Welsh) when she was eight years old with her family, staying at the Bird Observatory. Since then she returned annually to stay, then began volunteering with the Bird Observatory, farm-sitting and eventually becoming the Island Manager for the Bardsey Island Trust. This role is a world away from her previous work in Philanthropy Management with the Community Foundation in Wales, but involves just as much people skills whilst balancing the range of interests and conservation designations the island has. The role of Island Manager encapsulates everything from maintenance, decorating and cleaning of 15 Grade II listed buildings; managing the compost toilet process; meeting and greeting guests; maintaining the drinking water supply; to managing volunteers.

Trust me, it's 👌🏻
