With Helen Hickman aka Nellie and Eve
Helen Hickman aka Nellie and Eve, is a knitter, crocheter, weaver, natural dyer and teacher based on a hill in rural Carmarthenshire, South West Wales. What this lady doesn't know about wool isn't worth knowing. Nellie and Eve very much represents a homespun lifestyle, with all of Helen's products being handmade using locally sourced fleeces, usually from the sheep that happily graze the fields surrounding her workshop. The production of each of her pieces use a traditional spinning wheel to spin yarn, a loom to weave, an old Singer sewing machine or a simple crochet hook. Helen runs courses and workshops throughout the year teaching all wool-related craft techniques including peg-loom weaving, spinning, crochet and knitting. In February, she will be running her very first 'Woolly Weekend Retreat', a residential craft weekend set in the beautiful Brecon Beacons, a weekend to learn new skills and techniques, relax, meet like minded people and a chance to switch off and put your feet up.
After the Christmas circus, what more could you ask for than a weekend of fresh air in your lungs, being surrounded by lush green countryside, tea on tap, good company and the opportunity to learn new or enhance existing skills, not to mention the huge benefit that these crafts and hands-on activities can have for wellbeing and mindfulness; it's a no-brainer.
